A Christmas Carol (Condensed)

A Christmas Carol (Condensed)

Adapted for youth theatre from Charles Dickens short story.

When the world's grumpiest man is visited by three mysterious spirits on Christmas Eve, he must confront the boy he used to be and the man he's become to save himself - and a young boy's life - from a lonely fate.

In 1840s London, the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge spends his Christmas Eve dismissing charity seekers and mistreating his clerk, Bob Cratchit. That night, he is visited by the ghost of his deceased partner, Jacob Marley, who wanders the afterlife in heavy chains as punishment for his greed. Marley warns Scrooge that three spirits will visit him to offer a final chance at redemption: the Ghost of Christmas Past, who reveals Scrooge’s transition from a lonely child to a heartless man; the Ghost of Christmas Present, who shows the joyful but struggling Cratchit family and their sickly son, Tiny Tim; and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, a silent phantom who points toward a future where Scrooge dies unloved and forgotten.

Terrified by these visions and the sight of his own neglected grave, Scrooge awakens on Christmas morning a transformed man. He immediately sets out to make amends by sending a massive turkey to the Cratchits, donating a fortune to the poor, and reuniting with his estranged nephew, Fred. Scrooge becomes a "second father" to Tiny Tim—who does not die—and earns a reputation for his overwhelming generosity and Christmas spirit. His dramatic change proves that it is never too late to alter one's path and embrace the power of kindness.
