Tess: The D'Urberville Dilemma

Tess: The D'Urberville Dilemma

A thrilling story of seduction, love and betrayal. Tess, an innocent young woman gets caught between manipulative Alec, her pretender cousin, and handsome educated farmer, Angel Clare.

This new adaptation of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles, set in 1920s England during The Great Depression, remains faithful to the original story.

Tess Durbeyfield, a young woman whose family lineage is revealed to be noble, falls into rural poverty. Following her father's illness and family deprivation, Tess struggles to take on the role of sole breadwinner, whilst attempting to navigate complicated family dynamics and her emerging identity.

Exploring early 20th century social class, gender roles, and the tragic consequences of societal expectations, Tess experiences the full force of the D'Urberville Dilemma.

Challenging Victorian morality, when Thomas Hardy wrote "Tess of the d'Urbervilles: A Pure Woman" it was originally censored, before being published in serialised form.
